Plumb Medic is my go to for water leaks and other plumbing issues. I have used them on multiple occasions to solve tricky issues that are typical of older homes. They were quick to come out and assess and quick to complete the project. Cameron, Cole, and Corey were polite, diligent, and frankly good at what they do. Happily recommend Plumb Medic to others and will use them should I have a new issue arise.

I rely on reviews a good bit but rarely write them. The glowing reviews are what led me to call Cameron/Plumb Medic LLC to get an estimate for installing a new Toto toilet that I ordered and had sitting in boxes in my hallway to replace my 43 year old Briggs toilet, yes 43 years ! Cameron returned my call immediately, was very knowledgeable and gave me a price that beat 2 other local plumbing companies even offering a discount for 2 toilets at once. I only had the one but am expecting delivery tomorrow for the second one. Cain and Eric came the next day to install my toilet. They were down to earth, easy to talk to , professional hardworking guys that knew their stuff! Plus, they are animal lovers like myself. I can honestly say that it was a pleasure having them at my house. They installed my new Toto and I plan to try to request them for the second Toto install. After using numerous plumbers/plumbing companies through the years I am happy and relieved to have found Plumb Medic and plan on making them my "go to " plumbers. This may sound odd but I do love my Toto !!! Barb Above review was several years ago. This 2nd review is from March 13 2026. Cameron and Corey came and installed a new Bradford White water heater for me. They did an exceptional job with attention to detail. Cameron noticed water seeping from an old connection above his work, accessed it and made the repair at no extra cost. I asked about replacing my 40 plus year old handle on the main water shut off to house at back of basement. Cameron was thoughtful enough to suggest that he could move it lower so I could reach it without a ladder -hopefully I won’t ever need to. He replaced it with a ball valve handle which is superior to the old school round handle that exterior faucets use and gave me a discount since they were installing the water heater. I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant experience. Plumb Medic , Cameron and crew are the BEST.

Cain and Eric were schedule to come and replace a weird leaking outdoor faucet and replace some stuff in a bathroom. They did this in the usual timely and professional manner. They noticed an indoor leak and opened the wall to find a bigger problem. Thank goodness and a mitigation company was called. At the same time I had a sewer problem and they quickly got Cole out to ream and camera the sewer. Highly recommend this service.

Called Plumb Medic after I got a 1300 water bill assuming I had a leak. Cole came out in a POURING rainstorm. Checked our meter outside getting soaked several times after shutting off house water, and came back to tell me we had no leak and there was no charge. I was shocked he would come out and not charge me. I will use Plumb Medic in the future for every plumbing issue. That’s amazing customer service.

Plumb Medic was great to work with. We had a water issue and they came out quickly, figured out exactly what was going on, and explained everything clearly along the way. The technician was patient, knowledgeable, and really on top of his work. He also referred us to a water remediation company to dry out the affected areas, which made the whole situation much easier to handle. I really appreciated the professionalism and friendliness they showed throughout the process. Overall, a very good experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again or recommend them.

The entire experience was great from start to finish. It started with a phone call with Cameron. He gave me an estimate and when I mentioned I was getting estimates from other businesses he provided me with several questions to ask them. Next step was an in person estimate. Cole came out, gave an estimate then emailed me what we had discussed. When Cole came out with one other person (I forget his name) they were early, finished the work soner than they said, cleaned up then the bill was what we were quoted. Great service, great people and reasonable prices. I would recommend them to everyone adn will use the again when we need them.

We have used Plumb Medic several times over the years for our plumbing needs. Cameron and his team have always been honest and professional. Recently we had a toilet installed in which Cameron himself came out and installed. He arrived within the window he promised given the busy holiday season, which is extremely rare these days. There were some defects with toilet we purchased from Home Depot, which caused the install to take longer than expected. He had mentioned prior to coming out that his kid had a Christmas program that day, but should be able to install the toilet in time. Due to the toilet defect I’m pretty sure he missed his kid’s performance, which killed me inside. I wished he would have told me, because I would have told him to go and come back tomorrow. This just proves Cameron’s dedication to his craft and his customers. We appreciate him and his family for his dedication and highly recommend him and his team to anyone who has plumbing needs. Thank you again Cameron and we wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Water Heater Repair in Woodstock, GA

Water heaters fail for many reasons, and identifying the root cause is the first step in any repair. Tank units commonly suffer from sediment buildup, failing heating elements, faulty thermostats, or worn gas valves. Tankless units more often deal with scale buildup on the heat exchanger, ignition failures, or flow sensor issues. Age plays a major role; units past 10 years are more likely to need repairs frequently. Hard water in the Woodstock area accelerates wear on internal components. Plumb Medic begins every service call with a full inspection, not just a quick look at the obvious symptom. We check the venting, gas pressure, water pressure, and electrical connections. A thorough diagnosis prevents repeat repairs and catches problems before they grow.

No hot water is the most common complaint we receive. For gas units, the cause is often a failed thermocouple, pilot light issue, or faulty gas valve. Electric units typically have a tripped breaker, failed heating element, or bad thermostat. Tankless models may show error codes that point directly to the issue, like ignition failure or flame loss. We test each component systematically rather than guessing. Replacing parts that are not actually failed wastes money and delays the real fix. Our technicians use multimeters, gas pressure gauges, and combustion analyzers to confirm the problem. The right diagnosis is the foundation of a lasting repair.

Strange noises from a water heater usually point to sediment buildup. Popping, rumbling, or banging sounds happen when water trapped under sediment boils and escapes. This buildup forces the unit to work harder, raising energy bills and shortening lifespan. A tank flush often resolves the issue if caught early. In severe cases, the sediment hardens into a rock-like layer that flushing cannot remove. At that point, replacement is usually more cost-effective than repair. Plumb Medic offers tank flushing as both a repair and preventive service. Annual flushing extends the life of your unit and protects efficiency.

Leaks demand immediate attention because water damage compounds quickly. Small drips from fittings, valves, or connections are usually repairable with new components. Leaks from the tank itself, however, signal internal corrosion that cannot be fixed. The pressure relief valve sometimes leaks when system pressure exceeds safe limits, often pointing to a missing or failed expansion tank. Drain valves can develop slow leaks as they age. Our team isolates the source quickly and tells you whether repair or replacement makes more sense. We never recommend replacement when a simple repair will solve the problem. Honest assessments are part of how we earn trust.

Discolored or smelly hot water often indicates anode rod failure or bacterial growth. The anode rod is a sacrificial metal component that protects the tank from corrosion. When it wears out, the tank itself begins to rust, turning hot water rusty or brown. Sulfur smells, often described as rotten eggs, come from bacteria reacting with the anode rod material. Replacing the anode rod or switching to a different metal type usually solves the problem. We inspect anode rods during repairs and replace them as needed. Catching this early prevents tank failure. It is one of the simplest and most effective maintenance steps available.

Pilot light and ignition problems frustrate many gas water heater owners. Modern units use electronic ignition systems with flame sensors and gas valves controlled by circuit boards. Common failures include dirty flame sensors, failed igniters, blocked flue vents, and bad thermocouples. Tankless units add complexity with flow sensors, fan motors, and condensate drains. Error codes on the display panel give us a starting point for diagnosis. Plumb Medic technicians are trained to interpret these codes accurately and verify them with hands-on testing. We avoid the common mistake of replacing parts based on the code alone. Proper diagnosis prevents callbacks and saves you money.

Water temperature problems range from lukewarm output to dangerously hot water. A failed thermostat is a frequent cause, allowing the unit to overheat or undershoot. Crossover, where cold water mixes with hot through a failed mixing valve or fixture, can mimic a water heater problem. Dip tubes inside tank units can break, sending cold water to the hot outlet. Sediment can also insulate heating elements, reducing their effectiveness. We measure water temperature at the unit and at the fixtures to pinpoint the issue. Adjusting thermostats to a safe 120 degrees Fahrenheit prevents scalding while keeping bacteria growth in check. Every repair includes a final temperature check before we leave.

Why Hire A Licensed Plumber For Your Water Heater Repair

Water heater repair involves gas, electricity, pressurized water, and combustion gases, which is why licensed professionals matter. Plumb Medic technicians are fully licensed, insured, and trained on the systems they service. We know how to test gas pressure safely, diagnose electrical faults, and identify venting problems that can cause carbon monoxide exposure. Manufacturer warranties typically require licensed technicians for repairs; DIY work can void coverage entirely. Our team carries the right tools and parts to fix the issue on the first visit in most cases. We follow Georgia plumbing codes and pull permits when required. TracPipe and Navien certifications give us specialized training that matters on modern systems. Every repair comes with documentation, a warranty on parts and labor, and accountability you can count on. We waive the diagnostic fee when we handle the repair, and financing is available through Wisetack. Hiring a licensed plumber means the job gets done safely, correctly, and with long-term value in mind.

Most Common Water Heater Repair Questions

Water heater repair questions usually center on cost, urgency, and whether repair makes more sense than replacement. Below are clear answers to the questions Woodstock homeowners ask most often before calling for service.

Water heater repair costs vary widely based on the issue, the type of unit, and the parts involved. Simple repairs like replacing a thermocouple, heating element, or pressure relief valve typically run $150 to $400 including labor. Mid-range repairs such as gas valve replacement, anode rod swaps, or thermostat replacement usually fall between $300 and $600. More involved repairs, like replacing a control board on a tankless unit or descaling a heat exchanger, can range from $400 to $900. Complex jobs involving venting changes or fuel line work cost more. Plumb Medic provides upfront pricing before any repair begins, so you know the total before we start.

Several factors influence the final cost beyond just the failed part. Older units sometimes need additional code upgrades when components are replaced, such as adding an expansion tank or sediment trap. Hard-to-reach installations in attics or tight closets may require more labor. Specialty parts for premium brands or older models cost more than standard components. Tankless repairs often involve more diagnostic time because of the integrated electronics. After-hours emergency service carries a higher rate, though our standard pricing remains transparent. We explain every line item before we begin.

Repair versus replacement is a question we help customers answer honestly. If a repair costs more than 50% of a new unit and your heater is over 8 years old, replacement usually makes more financial sense. Younger units with single-component failures are almost always worth repairing. Plumb Medic offers Wisetack financing, military and senior discounts, and waived diagnostic fees when we handle the work. These options keep repair costs manageable. We never push replacement to inflate the bill; if a $250 repair gets you another five years, that is the recommendation we make.

No hot water from a gas unit usually points to a pilot light, thermocouple, or gas supply issue. The pilot may have blown out, the thermocouple may have failed, or the gas valve itself may be defective. Sometimes the issue is upstream, like a closed gas shutoff valve or an empty propane tank. Tankless gas units add ignition components, flow sensors, and control boards to the list of possible culprits. Error codes on the display panel give us a starting point for diagnosis. Our technicians verify each component with hands-on testing before replacing anything. Guessing leads to unnecessary repairs and repeat service calls.

Electric units have their own common failure points. A tripped circuit breaker is the easiest fix, but if it trips again, something inside the unit is shorting out. Failed upper or lower heating elements are frequent causes, and they often fail in pairs over time. A bad thermostat can prevent the elements from receiving power even when everything else works. The high-limit switch may have tripped due to overheating, requiring both a reset and identification of the underlying cause. We test elements with a multimeter to confirm continuity and check for shorts. Replacing both elements at once is often smart since they age together.

Tankless units sometimes show no hot water symptoms when the issue is actually flow-related. The unit needs a minimum flow rate to activate; clogged aerators, failed flow sensors, or partially closed valves can drop flow below that threshold. Scale buildup on the heat exchanger is another common cause, especially in homes with hard water. Annual descaling prevents this and is part of routine tankless maintenance. Combustion air supply, exhaust venting, and condensate drainage all need to function properly. Plumb Medic is Navien certified, so we know these systems inside and out. We diagnose the issue, fix it correctly, and explain how to prevent it from recurring.

Most tank water heaters operate trouble-free for the first 6 to 8 years before any major repairs are needed. Smaller issues like pilot light problems or thermocouple replacements can occur earlier and are inexpensive to fix. Anode rod replacement is recommended around year 4 or 5 to extend tank life. Sediment buildup begins affecting performance after a few years, especially in homes with hard water. Annual flushing pushes problems further down the road. Units that go without maintenance often need repairs sooner than well-maintained ones. Quality of installation also affects longevity.

Tankless water heaters generally go longer between repairs, often 8 to 12 years before significant service is needed. Annual descaling and filter cleaning are critical for tankless longevity. Heat exchanger problems are the most expensive tankless repair, but they are also the rarest with proper maintenance. Ignition components, flow sensors, and control boards may need replacement over the unit’s life. Navien and other premium brands offer extended warranties on key components. Our team provides maintenance services that keep tankless units running efficiently. Following the manufacturer’s care schedule pays off long-term.

Repair frequency increases sharply as units approach end of life. A 10 to 12-year-old tank heater may need multiple repairs in a single year, signaling that replacement is on the horizon. Tankless units often last 15 to 20 years with proper care, but components inside still wear out. Plumb Medic offers honest assessments when units reach this stage. We help you decide between continued repairs or planned replacement based on cost, reliability, and your timeline. Sudden failures cause water damage and stress; planned replacements are smoother and often less expensive overall. Knowing the age and history of your unit helps make the right call.

Yes, a leaking water heater can be dangerous and should be addressed quickly. Water damage is the most immediate concern, especially in finished basements, attics, or upper-floor installations. Even small leaks can cause flooring damage, mold growth, and structural issues over time. Electrical components inside the unit can short out if water reaches them, creating fire or shock hazards. Gas units with leaks near the burner assembly can have combustion problems that lead to carbon monoxide exposure. Slip hazards from pooled water also create injury risks.

The location of the leak determines severity. Drips from fittings, valves, or supply lines are usually repairable with new components. Pressure relief valve leaks often signal excess system pressure, which is a safety issue that needs immediate attention. Leaks from the bottom of the tank typically mean internal corrosion, and the tank cannot be repaired safely. Continuing to use a tank that is leaking from the bottom risks sudden failure, where the entire contents spill at once. A 50-gallon tank dumping its contents in a closet or attic causes major damage. Shutting off the water supply and calling a plumber is the right move.

Plumb Medic offers 24/7 emergency service for active leaks. We arrive quickly, shut down the unit safely, and assess whether repair or replacement is needed. If immediate replacement is the right call, we can often complete it the same day. For repairs, we identify the source, replace the failed component, and pressure-test the system. Insurance claims sometimes follow water heater leaks; we provide documentation that supports the claim process. Catching leaks early limits damage and keeps repair costs down. Never ignore visible water around a water heater.

Popping, rumbling, or banging noises almost always come from sediment buildup in the bottom of a tank water heater. Minerals in hard water settle to the bottom and harden into a layer over time. When the burner heats the tank from below, water trapped under the sediment turns to steam and escapes violently, creating the sound. The noise itself does not damage the unit immediately, but the underlying problem does. Sediment forces the heater to work harder, raising energy bills and shortening lifespan. The bottom of the tank can also overheat, weakening the steel and accelerating corrosion. Addressing the noise means addressing the sediment.

Flushing the tank is the standard fix and is most effective when done regularly. The process involves draining the tank, stirring up sediment, and flushing it out through the drain valve. Annual flushing keeps sediment levels manageable and protects efficiency. Units that have gone many years without flushing may have hardened sediment that does not flush out easily. In severe cases, the sediment forms a rock-like mass that requires tank replacement. Plumb Medic offers tank flushing as both a repair and a preventive service. Catching the issue early saves the unit and keeps energy costs in check.

Other noises sometimes get confused with sediment problems. Ticking sounds often come from heat traps or expansion of metal parts during heating cycles, which is normal. Hissing usually indicates a leak somewhere on the tank, which needs immediate inspection. Whistling can come from valves not fully open or partially blocked. Crackling is sometimes mineral deposits on heating elements in electric units. Our technicians identify the specific noise and its source before recommending action. Different noises mean different problems and different solutions. A trained ear and proper diagnostic process produce the right answer.

Several factors guide the repair-versus-replace decision. Age is the biggest one; units over 10 years old are candidates for replacement, while younger units are usually worth repairing. The cost of the repair compared to a new unit also matters. A general rule says if the repair exceeds 50% of replacement cost, replacement is the smarter choice. Repeated repairs in a short period signal a unit nearing end of life. Visible tank corrosion, rusty hot water, or leaks from the tank body almost always mean replacement.

Energy efficiency has improved significantly over the past decade, so older units cost more to operate. Replacing a 12-year-old standard tank with a high-efficiency model can cut water heating costs noticeably. Tankless conversions offer even greater savings for the right households. Federal and local rebates sometimes apply to high-efficiency replacements. Plumb Medic helps identify available incentives and factors them into the decision. The math often favors replacement when efficiency gains are included.

Plumb Medic provides honest, no-pressure assessments. We tell you exactly what is wrong, what it costs to repair, and what a new unit would cost installed. If repair is the better choice, we make the repair and stand behind it. If replacement saves you money long-term, we explain why and provide options. Wisetack financing makes new units accessible without straining your budget. Military and senior discounts apply to both repairs and installations. Our goal is the right outcome for your home, not the biggest invoice. That approach has earned us the Business Rate’s Best of Woodstock Plumber 2025 award.

Some basic maintenance tasks are reasonable for handy homeowners, but most repairs should be left to licensed plumbers. Lighting a pilot light, resetting a tripped breaker, or checking the thermostat setting are simple actions most people can handle safely. Beyond that, water heaters involve gas, electricity, and pressurized water in ways that require training to handle safely. Working on gas connections without proper tools and knowledge risks leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide exposure. Electrical work on water heaters requires understanding of 240-volt systems, which is not the same as standard household wiring.

DIY repairs often void manufacturer warranties. Most water heater warranties require licensed professionals for service work, and self-repair documentation is hard to provide. Insurance issues also come into play; if a DIY repair causes water damage or fire, your homeowner’s policy may deny the claim. Code violations from improper repairs can affect home sales and inspections. Common DIY mistakes include incorrect thermocouple positioning, wrong replacement parts, and missing safety components. These mistakes can be dangerous, expensive, or both.

Plumb Medic makes professional repair affordable and accessible. We waive the diagnostic fee when we handle the repair, offer financing through Wisetack, and provide military and senior discounts. Our 24/7 emergency service covers situations that cannot wait. Every repair includes warranty coverage on parts and labor, accountability you cannot get from DIY work, and confidence that the job was done correctly. The cost difference between DIY and professional repair is often smaller than people expect, especially after factoring in tools, parts, and time. Calling a licensed plumber is usually the smarter financial decision. We are happy to handle the work so you do not have to.

Annual flushing is the single most effective maintenance task for tank water heaters. Draining and flushing the tank removes sediment that builds up over time, protecting efficiency and extending lifespan. The process takes about an hour and can be done as part of a regular service visit. Anode rod inspection every two to three years catches corrosion before it reaches the tank itself. Replacing a worn anode rod costs far less than replacing the entire heater. Checking the pressure relief valve annually verifies it operates correctly, which is a critical safety function.

Tankless water heaters require descaling, especially in areas with hard water like Cherokee County. The process involves circulating a descaling solution through the heat exchanger to remove mineral buildup. Annual descaling protects the most expensive component in the unit. Cleaning intake filters, inspecting the venting, and verifying gas pressure are also part of routine tankless maintenance. Some manufacturers, including Navien, offer extended warranties when annual professional maintenance is documented. Our Navien certification ensures we follow manufacturer specifications precisely.

Plumb Medic offers maintenance services that pay for themselves through extended unit life and lower repair costs. Our water heater inspections catch problems early, often before they cause failures. We document each inspection so you have records for warranty claims and home sales. Setting the thermostat to 120 degrees Fahrenheit balances safety, efficiency, and bacteria control. Insulating exposed hot water pipes saves energy and reduces wait times at fixtures. Installing a water softener protects against hard water damage in tankless systems. Small steps add up to years of reliable service from your water heater.
