Plumb Medic is my go to for water leaks and other plumbing issues. I have used them on multiple occasions to solve tricky issues that are typical of older homes. They were quick to come out and assess and quick to complete the project. Cameron, Cole, and Corey were polite, diligent, and frankly good at what they do. Happily recommend Plumb Medic to others and will use them should I have a new issue arise.

Thank you so much for the great service. I called that morning because my toilet was continuously running, and you came out that day. I rely on reviews a good bit but rarely write them. The glowing reviews are what led me to call Cameron/Plumb Medic LLC to get an estimate for installing a new Toto toilet that I ordered and had sitting in boxes in my hallway to replace my 43 year old Briggs toilet, yes 43 years ! Cameron returned my call immediately, was very knowledgeable and gave me a price that beat 2 other local plumbing companies even offering a discount for 2 toilets at once. I only had the one but am expecting delivery tomorrow for the second one. Cain and Eric came the next day to install my toilet. They were down to earth, easy to talk to , professional hardworking guys that knew their stuff! Plus, they are animal lovers like myself. I can honestly say that it was a pleasure having them at my house. They installed my new Toto and I plan to try to request them for the second Toto install. After using numerous plumbers/plumbing companies through the years I am happy and relieved to have found Plumb Medic and plan on making them my "go to " plumbers. This may sound odd but I do love my Toto !!! Barb Above review was several years ago. This 2nd review is from March 13 2026. Cameron and Corey came and installed a new Bradford White water heater for me. They did an exceptional job with attention to detail. Cameron noticed water seeping from an old connection above his work, accessed it and made the repair at no extra cost. I asked about replacing my 40 plus year old handle on the main water shut off to house at back of basement. Cameron was thoughtful enough to suggest that he could move it lower so I could reach it without a ladder -hopefully I won’t ever need to. He replaced it with a ball valve handle which is superior to the old school round handle that exterior faucets use and gave me a discount since they were installing the water heater. I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant experience. Plumb Medic , Cameron and crew are the BEST.

Cain and Eric were schedule to come and replace a weird leaking outdoor faucet and replace some stuff in a bathroom. They did this in the usual timely and professional manner. They noticed an indoor leak and opened the wall to find a bigger problem. Thank goodness and a mitigation company was called. At the same time I had a sewer problem and they quickly got Cole out to ream and camera the sewer. Highly recommend this service.

Called Plumb Medic after I got a 1300 water bill assuming I had a leak. Cole came out in a POURING rainstorm. Checked our meter outside getting soaked several times after shutting off house water, and came back to tell me we had no leak and there was no charge. I was shocked he would come out and not charge me. I will use Plumb Medic in the future for every plumbing issue. That’s amazing customer service.

I called Plumb Medic and after a brief discussion we were scheduled for a new install 2 days later. They were on time, on budget and the area was spic-and-span when they finished up. Plumb Medic was great to work with. We had a water issue and they came out quickly, figured out exactly what was going on, and explained everything clearly along the way. The technician was patient, knowledgeable, and really on top of his work. He also referred us to a water remediation company to dry out the affected areas, which made the whole situation much easier to handle. I really appreciated the professionalism and friendliness they showed throughout the process. Overall, a very good experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again or recommend them.

The entire experience was great from start to finish. It started with a phone call with Cameron. He gave me an estimate and when I mentioned I was getting estimates from other businesses he provided me with several questions to ask them. Next step was an in person estimate. Cole came out, gave an estimate then emailed me what we had discussed. When Cole came out with one other person (I forget his name) they were early, finished the work soner than they said, cleaned up then the bill was what we were quoted. Great service, great people and reasonable prices. I would recommend them to everyone adn will use the again when we need them.

We have used Plumb Medic several times over the years for our plumbing needs. Cameron and his team have always been honest and professional. Recently we had a toilet installed in which Cameron himself came out and installed. He arrived within the window he promised given the busy holiday season, which is extremely rare these days. There were some defects with toilet we purchased from Home Depot, which caused the install to take longer than expected. He had mentioned prior to coming out that his kid had a Christmas program that day, but should be able to install the toilet in time. Due to the toilet defect I’m pretty sure he missed his kid’s performance, which killed me inside. I wished he would have told me, because I would have told him to go and come back tomorrow. This just proves Cameron’s dedication to his craft and his customers. We appreciate him and his family for his dedication and highly recommend him and his team to anyone who has plumbing needs. Thank you again Cameron and we wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Water Heater Installation in Woodstock, GA

Choosing the right water heater starts with understanding the differences between tank and tankless systems. Tank models store hot water in an insulated cylinder, typically 40 to 80 gallons, and reheat the supply on a cycle. Tankless units heat water on demand using a high-output burner or electric element, providing endless hot water for the home. Tank systems generally cost less upfront, while tankless units offer long-term energy savings. The right choice depends on family size, fuel type, and available space. Plumb Medic walks you through each option without pressure. We explain warranty terms, expected lifespan, and operating costs in plain language. Our goal is to match the system to your home, not upsell features you do not need.

Proper sizing is critical for performance and efficiency. An undersized unit runs constantly and wears out faster, while an oversized unit wastes energy heating water nobody uses. For tank models, we calculate first-hour rating based on peak demand. For tankless systems, we measure flow rate in gallons per minute and factor in groundwater temperature. Georgia winters can drop incoming water temperatures, which affects tankless output. We also account for simultaneous fixture use, like a shower running while the dishwasher cycles. Our technicians use manufacturer sizing charts combined with field experience. The result is a system that performs reliably year-round.

Fuel type plays a major role in installation planning. Natural gas heaters require proper venting, gas line capacity, and combustion air. Electric units need dedicated 240-volt circuits and adequate panel capacity. Propane systems share many requirements with natural gas but use different burner orifices. Tankless gas units often need larger gas lines than traditional tank heaters because of their higher BTU input. Plumb Medic is TracPipe certified for flexible gas line work, which makes upgrades cleaner and faster. We coordinate with electricians when panel work is required. Every fuel connection is leak-tested before the unit is fired up.

Venting is one of the most overlooked parts of water heater installation. Atmospheric vent units rely on natural draft through a metal flue. Power-vent and direct-vent models use fans and PVC piping to exhaust combustion gases safely. Tankless units typically require stainless steel or specialty PVC venting rated for high temperatures. Improper venting can cause carbon monoxide to enter the living space, which is a serious safety hazard. Our team verifies vent slope, length, and termination clearances against manufacturer specs. We also inspect existing chimneys for cracks, blockages, or deterioration. When venting upgrades are needed, we explain the work clearly before starting.

Location matters more than most homeowners realize. Garages, basements, attics, and utility closets each present different installation challenges. Earthquake straps, drip pans, and expansion tanks may be required by code depending on placement. Attic installations need secondary drain pans with leak sensors to prevent ceiling damage. Basement units often benefit from a condensate pump if drains are not nearby. Plumb Medic assesses access for future service when choosing the final location. We also check for adequate clearance around the unit. Good placement extends the lifespan of the heater and simplifies routine maintenance.

Code compliance protects your home, your family, and your investment. Woodstock and Cherokee County follow Georgia state plumbing codes, which require permits for water heater replacements in most cases. Temperature and pressure relief valves must terminate properly to prevent scalding or flooding. Expansion tanks are required on closed plumbing systems to absorb pressure spikes. Sediment traps on gas lines, dielectric unions on copper connections, and proper grounding all fall under code. Plumb Medic handles permits and coordinates inspections so you do not have to. Skipping permits can void warranties and cause issues during home sales. Every install we complete meets or exceeds local code.

After the new unit is set, we pressurize the system slowly to check every connection. Hot and cold lines are inspected for leaks, and the pressure relief valve is tested for proper operation. For gas units, we use electronic leak detectors on every joint. The thermostat is set to a safe 120 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent scalding while still killing harmful bacteria. We flush the unit briefly to clear any debris from the manufacturing process. Then we walk you through operation, maintenance recommendations, and warranty registration. A final job site cleanup leaves the area as we found it. You receive documentation for permits, warranty, and any rebates that apply.

Why Hire A Licensed Plumber For Your Water Heater Installation

Hiring a licensed plumber for water heater installation protects your home, your family, and your wallet. Licensed professionals understand local codes, permit requirements, and inspection processes that DIY installers often miss. Plumb Medic technicians carry full licensing and insurance, so you are covered if anything goes wrong. We have the proper tools to handle gas connections, venting, and electrical components safely. Manufacturer warranties typically require professional installation; skipping that step can void coverage entirely. Our team is TracPipe and Navien certified, which means we are trained on the systems we install. Improper installation can cause carbon monoxide leaks, water damage, electrical fires, or scalding injuries. We pull permits, schedule inspections, and provide documentation for your records. Plumb Medic also offers 24/7 emergency service, financing through Wisetack, and waived diagnostic fees when we handle the work. Choosing a licensed plumber means the job is done right the first time, with accountability you can count on.

Most Common Water Heater Installation Questions

Water heater installation involves more than swapping out an old tank for a new one; sizing, fuel type, venting, and code compliance all play a role. Below are answers to the questions homeowners in Woodstock ask most often before scheduling service.

Most standard tank water heater installations take between two and three hours from start to finish. This includes draining the old unit, disconnecting fuel and water lines, removing the old tank, and setting the new one in place. Tankless installations generally take longer, often four to six hours, because they require new venting and sometimes upgraded gas lines. If the new unit is a different size or type than the old one, additional plumbing modifications can extend the timeline. Permit pickup and inspection scheduling happen separately and do not delay the install itself. Our team arrives with the unit, fittings, and tools needed to complete the job in one visit. We give you a clear time estimate before starting.

Several factors can affect the total installation time. Older homes sometimes have corroded fittings that need to be replaced before the new unit can connect properly. Tight utility closets, attic spaces, or basement corners can slow down the removal and placement process. Switching from electric to gas, or from tank to tankless, requires additional work like running new gas lines or installing fresh venting. Code upgrades, such as adding an expansion tank or earthquake straps, also add time. Plumb Medic factors these variables into our estimates so you know what to expect. We do not cut corners to finish faster. Quality work takes the time it takes.

We respect your schedule and aim to complete installations the same day whenever possible. Most appointments are booked within 24 to 48 hours, and emergency installations are available around the clock. After the unit is installed, we run it through a full test cycle before declaring the job complete. You will have hot water by the end of the appointment in nearly every case. We clean up thoroughly and haul away the old unit at no extra charge. Documentation, warranty information, and operation tips are reviewed before we leave. Our goal is a smooth, predictable experience from start to finish.

Water heater installation costs vary based on the type of unit, fuel source, and complexity of the job. Standard 40 or 50-gallon tank water heaters typically range from $1,500 to $2,800 installed, including the unit, labor, and basic code upgrades. Tankless units cost more upfront, often between $3,500 and $6,500 installed, but they offer long-term energy savings and a longer lifespan. Premium brands, larger capacities, and specialty features like Wi-Fi connectivity will push prices higher. Switching fuel types, relocating the unit, or upgrading gas lines and venting also affects the final cost. Plumb Medic provides upfront pricing before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

Several add-ons can influence the total investment. Expansion tanks, required by code on closed plumbing systems, typically run $150 to $300 installed. Earthquake straps, drip pans with leak sensors, and new shutoff valves are sometimes needed depending on the situation. Permit fees vary by jurisdiction but are generally modest. If old galvanized or polybutylene piping is present, we may recommend replacing the connections to the new unit. Tankless installations often need a water softener or filter to protect the heat exchanger from hard water damage. We explain every line item so you understand exactly what you are paying for.

Plumb Medic offers several ways to make installation more affordable. Financing through Wisetack lets you spread the cost over manageable monthly payments with quick approval. Military members and seniors receive a discount on labor. We waive the diagnostic fee when you move forward with the installation, which keeps overall costs lower. Manufacturer rebates and local utility incentives can further reduce the price, especially on high-efficiency tankless units. We help identify available rebates and provide the paperwork needed to claim them. Our pricing reflects licensed, insured, professional work backed by a strong warranty. You get long-term value, not just a low number.

Tankless water heaters offer several advantages over traditional tank units, but they are not the right fit for every home. The biggest benefit is endless hot water; the unit heats water on demand, so you never run out during back-to-back showers. Tankless models also last longer, often 20 years or more compared to 10 to 12 years for a tank unit. They take up far less space, mounting on a wall instead of occupying a floor footprint. Energy efficiency is another major draw, with tankless units using 24% to 34% less energy in homes that use moderate amounts of hot water. Long-term operating costs are typically lower as a result.

That said, tankless systems come with higher upfront costs and specific installation requirements. The unit itself costs more, and installation often involves upgrading gas lines, adding new venting, and sometimes upgrading the electrical service. Hard water can damage the heat exchanger, so a water softener or annual descaling is recommended. Flow rate matters; a single tankless unit may struggle to supply two showers and a dishwasher running at the same time. Cold incoming water in winter reduces output, so sizing must account for the coldest months. Households with very low hot water use may not recoup the higher upfront cost in energy savings.

Plumb Medic helps you weigh the pros and cons honestly. We are Navien certified, which means we are factory-trained on one of the most reliable tankless brands available. Our team evaluates your gas supply, venting options, water hardness, and household demand before recommending a model. If a tankless unit is the right fit, we install it correctly and provide guidance on maintenance. If a high-efficiency tank model serves you better, we will say so. The goal is a system that fits your home, your budget, and your hot water habits. We are happy to provide both options in writing for comparison.

Tank water heaters typically last 8 to 12 years, depending on water quality, maintenance, and usage patterns. Hard water shortens lifespan because mineral deposits build up inside the tank, causing the unit to work harder and corrode faster. Annual flushing helps remove sediment and can add years to a tank’s life. The anode rod, a sacrificial metal component inside the tank, should be inspected every two to three years and replaced when heavily corroded. A neglected anode rod allows the tank itself to rust through, leading to leaks and failure. Quality of the original installation also plays a role.

Tankless water heaters generally last 15 to 20 years or longer with proper care. They have fewer parts that fail, and most components can be repaired or replaced individually rather than scrapping the entire unit. Annual descaling is important, especially in areas with hard water like much of metro Atlanta. The heat exchanger is the most expensive component, and protecting it with a softener or filter pays off over time. Manufacturers like Navien offer extended warranties on tankless models, often 15 years on the heat exchanger. Regular inspection of the venting, gas connections, and combustion air supply keeps the unit running safely.

Several signs indicate a water heater is nearing the end of its life. Rusty water from hot taps, popping or rumbling noises, and visible leaks around the base are common warnings. Inconsistent water temperature or a sudden drop in capacity can also signal trouble. Higher utility bills may point to declining efficiency. Plumb Medic offers water heater inspections to assess remaining life and identify problems before they cause damage. If replacement is needed, we help you plan the upgrade rather than scramble during an emergency. Proactive replacement saves money, prevents water damage, and gives you control over the timing.

Yes, most water heater installations in Woodstock and surrounding Cherokee County require a permit. Georgia state plumbing code mandates permits for replacements that involve gas connections, venting changes, or modifications to the water supply lines. Like-for-like electric replacements sometimes have simpler permitting, but local rules still apply. Permits exist to ensure the work meets safety standards and is inspected by a qualified official. Skipping the permit process can create problems during home sales, void manufacturer warranties, and leave you liable if something goes wrong. Insurance companies may also deny claims related to unpermitted work.

Plumb Medic handles the entire permit process for our customers. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector on-site if needed. The cost is modest and is included in our upfront pricing. Inspectors check for proper venting, code-compliant connections, expansion tanks, temperature relief valve termination, and other safety-critical details. Our installations are designed to pass inspection the first time, every time. We have strong working relationships with local building departments, which keeps the process smooth.

DIY or unlicensed installations frequently fail inspection or, worse, never get inspected at all. Common code violations include improper venting, missing expansion tanks, incorrect relief valve discharge, and ungrounded electrical connections. Each of these can cause serious safety issues, from carbon monoxide exposure to flooding. When you hire a licensed plumber, the installation is documented, inspected, and tied to a professional who is accountable for the work. That paper trail matters when you sell your home or file an insurance claim. Plumb Medic provides all permit documentation and inspection records for your files. You can rest easy knowing the job was done by the book.

Sizing depends on household size, peak demand, and the type of heater. For tank water heaters, a common rule of thumb is 30 to 40 gallons for a one to two-person household, 40 to 50 gallons for a three to four-person household, and 50 to 80 gallons for five or more people. First-hour rating is more important than total capacity; it measures how much hot water the unit can deliver during peak demand. A family that takes back-to-back morning showers needs a higher first-hour rating than a household with staggered usage. Recovery rate, or how quickly the unit reheats, also matters in busy homes.

Tankless sizing uses a different approach based on flow rate measured in gallons per minute. A typical shower uses 2 to 2.5 GPM, a dishwasher uses 1.5 GPM, and a washing machine uses 2 GPM. Adding up the simultaneous fixtures in use gives you the required flow rate. Incoming water temperature also factors in; colder groundwater requires a unit with higher BTU input to heat water to the desired temperature. In Georgia, winter groundwater temperatures can drop into the 50s, which affects sizing. Plumb Medic uses manufacturer charts and field measurements to recommend the right unit. Undersizing leads to lukewarm showers, while oversizing wastes money.

Lifestyle and future plans also influence sizing decisions. A growing family, planned bathroom additions, or new high-flow fixtures all affect future hot water needs. Installing a slightly larger unit now can prevent another replacement in a few years. On the other hand, oversizing wastes energy and increases upfront cost. We ask about your daily routine, peak usage times, and any planned home changes. Soaking tubs, body sprays, and large rain showerheads dramatically increase demand. Plumb Medic provides honest recommendations based on real data, not generic averages. The right size is the one that fits your actual life.

Technically you can, but it is rarely a good idea for several reasons. Water heaters involve gas lines, electrical connections, pressurized water systems, and venting; mistakes in any of these areas can cause serious harm. Improper gas connections can lead to leaks, fires, or carbon monoxide poisoning. Faulty venting can fill your home with combustion gases. Incorrect pressure relief valve installation can cause the tank to explode. Most jurisdictions require permits and licensed contractors for water heater work, so DIY installations may be illegal in your area.

Manufacturer warranties almost always require professional installation by a licensed plumber. If you install the unit yourself and a defect appears, the manufacturer can deny the claim entirely. Insurance is another concern; if a DIY water heater causes water damage, fire, or injury, your homeowner’s policy may refuse to pay. Home buyers and inspectors flag unpermitted water heater work, which can derail a sale or reduce offers. Even handy homeowners can underestimate the complexity of code requirements like expansion tanks, sediment traps, and dielectric unions. The savings from DIY installation rarely justify the risks.

Plumb Medic offers transparent pricing, financing, and discounts that make professional installation affordable. We handle permits, inspections, code upgrades, and proper disposal of the old unit. Our work is backed by warranty, and our technicians are fully licensed and insured. If something goes wrong, we are accountable and we fix it. The peace of mind alone is worth the professional install. You get a safe, reliable system that will perform for years without surprises. Let us handle the heavy lifting; that is what we are here for.

The best brand depends on the type of unit and your specific needs, but several names consistently lead the industry. For tankless water heaters, Navien is one of the top choices, offering high efficiency, reliable performance, and strong warranties. Plumb Medic is Navien certified, which means our team is factory-trained on installation and service. Rinnai and Noritz are also respected tankless brands with solid track records. For tank water heaters, Bradford White, Rheem, and AO Smith dominate the market for good reason. Each brand offers a range of models from basic to premium, with varying warranty lengths and efficiency ratings.

Quality matters more than brand name in many cases. A mid-range model from a top manufacturer often outperforms a premium model from a lesser brand. Warranty length is a useful indicator of expected lifespan; longer warranties usually reflect better internal components. Look at the tank lining, anode rod quality, burner design, and insulation thickness when comparing tank models. For tankless units, heat exchanger material, BTU output, and minimum flow rate are key specs. Energy Star certification ensures the unit meets efficiency standards and may qualify for rebates.

Plumb Medic recommends brands based on your home, budget, and goals. We do not push the most expensive option just to inflate the bill. Bradford White is a strong choice for tank water heaters because it is sold exclusively through licensed plumbers, ensuring proper installation. Navien tankless units offer some of the best efficiency ratings on the market and come with extended heat exchanger warranties. Our team installs and services multiple brands, so we know which models hold up over time. We share honest feedback from years of field experience. The goal is a unit that performs reliably and fits your needs without overspending.
